Founding History - Celestials

Celestials is a collection of islands discovered by several sailors from different civilizations over a a long period of time, and eventually (for many differing reasons) colonies started to settle on different islands, some sharing the same one and some preferring to head to their own.

At first, sailing was the mainstay of logistics between the colonies. Previous experience in shipbuilding and sailing allowed for a familiar, comfortable method of lugging around material to various important locations, as much as it wasn't needed. - The fertile soil of initial founding sites provided much-needed supplies for initial settling, and colonies flourished without much need for logistical prowess.

After some time, some colonies desired expansion, and grew to match their desire. Others, preferred the small, comfortable life. It wasn't uncommon for the larger colonies to split and create splinter colonies, either due to political strife, natural disaster or for a simple change of scenery.

Eventually as all the colonies started to grow and establish, communications lines and trade routes developed between them. Initially, there were concerns from colony leaders of ownership of public resources and land, and arguments ensured between the colonies. Eventually, level-headedness prevailed and they all mutually agreed on a self-governance system, with contribution to public works at a self-motivated pace. Generally, the colonies get along well and create works of wonders for use by all.

The Four Entities

Each entity has an effect on the world, dependent on the “attention” each receives. An entity will pay it's attention to the world, and as a result enact it's effects on it. You can encourage the attention of an entity by talking, thinking and informing others of its existence.

Void entity

Responsible for natural destruction, darkness. Has an impact on the world of perpetual darkness, decay and turns existing buildings into ruin. Without void, nothing dies, nature overgrows, overpopulation occurs and bloody wars break out over resources, people starve etc. This in turn, draws the void entities attention and then balance is restored.

Dew Entity

Represents the water system, fertility and life. Without dew, the world dries up, people die of famine and thirst, and the land cracks. This then draws the attention of Dew.

Celestial Entity

Responsible for the land, the planets and stars. Works in tandem with Dew to create life. Without Celestial, the land refuses to accept crops, water, and the night sky disappears.

Social entity

Responsible for idea dissemination, informatics, society and collaboration. Without Social, information refuses to spread, becomes indecipherable, knowledge stores disintegrate and societies collapse - No progress is made, and the world is stuck in a land of stasis

In an ideal scenario, an equal amount of attention would be granted to each entity, therefore keeping the world in a state of balance; The rivers refill, the land revitalizes and accepts Dew, the social entity breeds creativity, progress and innovation and the void entity keeps them all in check by enforcing day/night, decaying unused elements so others may use their nutrients, etc.

Back and forth of the citizens and the Forerunners consulted with one another, with the Forerunners acting as religious leaders informing them of what needs to change, etc. The citizens as they grew eventually became disillusioned with the Forerunners, as they hadn't seen the impact of imbalance for a very long time. This lead to waning popularity, differing methods of governance and a disregard for the forerunner teachings. The Forerunners had a duty to balance the entities, and as a result did so in secret - political games were played to nudge policy one way or the other.

However, splitting your efforts between political games and a noble goal eventually forces you to pick one or the other, and the Forerunners picked balance over politics. They disavowed all political games, and migrated to an isolationist policy of oraclehood and sages. Important figures would come to consult them on matters, but the Forerunners warnings were taken as superstition instead of fact.

Colonies were created, wars fought, societies crumbled, famines ravages, drought struck as the entity balance was thrown wildy out of balance. The Forerunners sat by the wayside, waiting for a right time to reintroduce themselves to society with open ears instead of political rivalry.
